Annual Sweet Corn Festival

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Come visit Cherry Crest Adventure Farm for our Annual Sweet Corn Festival on Saturday, August 29, 2009. With lots of exciting & corny activities going on, there is fun for all ages. Jump in a corn eating contest, work with your family to build the tallest or most creative corn stalk creation, and of course don't forget to enjoy your complimentary ear of freshly roasted sweet corn! Work on corn crafts, sample a variety of corn foods, and get lost in a giant corn maze.

Special Sweet Corn Festival Activities

  • Corn Hole - You and your family can play the classic farm game of corn hole. Toss bean bags in a hole to earn points & take your team to victory.

  • Corn Crafts - Learn how to make silly putty out of cornstarch. Take your project home with you as a souvenir of your visit.

  • Corn Stalk Creation Contest* - Sign up your family or group to participate in this fun contest. Each group will be given a bundle of corn stalks which they can use to build a corn stalk structure. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the day for Tallest Structure, the Most Creative Corn Stalk Structure, and Best of Show. Winners will be posted on our website. This is one of our favorite events. Click here to see participants from past festivals. The towers must be made of corn stalks only. No additional building materials will be permitted.

  • Corn Eating Contests* - A fun and tasty competition for children and adults. Each competitor will be given an ear of freshly roasted sweet corn. The first person to completely devour one ear of sweet corn is pronounced the winner.

  • Corn Husking Contest* - Children ages 3-5 can participate in this fun activity. Each child is given one ear of corn. On Your Mark - Get Set - Go!! The first child to completely husk their ear of corn wins a prize.

  • Corn Shelling Contest - For ages 6 & up. This challenging contest is not as easy as it sounds. Trying to take a kernel off of every last ear of corn is quite the challenge.

  • Pony Rides & Face Painting - No festival would be complete without these fun activities. (Additional charge applies.)

  • Eastland Alpacas - These special guests are visiting us from a nearby farm with their adorable alpacas. Check out their beautiful selection of alpaca wool products and get up close and personal with alpaca.

*Sign up at the registration table at least 15 minutes before the start of the event. Limited availability for these events. All participants will receive a participation award.

Special Food

  • Roasted Sweet Corn - The highlight of our event is our freshly roasted sweet corn. Still inside the husk, the corn is put into our giant roaster and turned into a delectable treat. Peel away the husk, add a little butter & salt and chow down for a taste of Lancaster so good, you'll savor every bite.

  • Chicken Corn Soup - Try some of our chicken corn soup made by the Paradise Fire Company. It will fill your stomach and warm your soul.

  • Fried Sweet Corn - We'll bet you've never sunk your teeth into fried sweet corn, but we're pretty sure you're gonna love it!

  • Corn Dogs - This classic combination tastes just like you remember.

  • Kettle Corn - This freshly made Cherry-Crest favorite makes a great snack to take home at the end of a busy day.

  • Corn Fritters - We couldn't leave out this corny treat.
