The 2007 Sweet Corn Festival

CORN STALK STRUCTURE BUILDING CONTEST

This year's competition was filled with incredible creativity. Families persevered in spite of the heat to give us a wide variety of corny creations. Everything from flowers to boats to porch swings graced the barnyard. A gentle breeze was blowing through the farm adding an additional challenge for our designers.

The top prizes were for the Tallest Structure and Most Creative Structure, although to acknowledge some of the other outstanding works, we added Most Inspirational, Best Structure and the consolation prize for Tallest Fallen Tower. The Tallest Fallen Tower was the tallest tower ever built for our competition. Unfortunately, it was constructed early in the day and was blown over before the judging could take place at 6:00. Take a look at some of these fabulous works!

The Barnyard was filled with teams working diligently on their creations.
This contest was fun for the whole family!

FUN ENTERTAINMENT COURTESY OF WITF

WITF came for the festivities and brought lots of fun performers, such as kids singer Steven Courtney, juggler Bobby Pleis, and Clifford the Big Red Dog!

EASTLAND ALPACAS

A special thanks to the Zurin Family who brought their beautiful alpacas for Sweet Corn Fest. They were a big hit!

SWEET CORN EATING COMPETITION

This year proved once again that these contests are not just for kids. The first person to eat one ear of corn the fastest was declared the winner. And as our announcer Joel reminded each competitor "No Skippers Allowed!" Some of last years contestants, such as Matthew (shown with an ear of corn) returned in 2007 to defend their titles. Way to go Matthew!

CORN SHELLING COMPETITION

The kernels were flying off the ear for this fast paced event. Kids & adults put on their game faces to see who could shell corn the fastest.

CORN HUSKING COMPETITION

This event was just for the young'ens. Each child was given one ear of corn and had to tear off each piece of husk. First one to husk the corn was the winner. The crowd cheered loudly for our young competitors.

FREE CORN!

Each person who attended our event enjoyed a free ear of our freshly roasted sweet corn. Yum!
