The 2009 Sweet Corn Festival

Everyone had a farm-tastic fun day at our 2009 Sweet Corn Fest. Crowds were cheering on our competitors as they ate, husked, built and shelled their way to victory! Families relaxed and enjoyed the music of Baze and his Silly Friends and kids could make a corn craft. Everyone was wearing a smile.

Baze & His Silly Friends

Kids, parents & grandparents enjoyed the lively tunes presented by Baze & His Silly Friends.

Sweet Corn Eating Competition

Our loudest, most loved, fastest paced, and messiest competition of the day - people just love watching the Sweet Corn Eating Contest! Our competitors had all sorts of strategies for eating their corn. Some rationalized that butter would help the corn slide into their mouths more quickly. Others went plain thinking that a buttery ear of corn would be slippery and harder to eat. Any way they chomped it, this contest was full of corny laughter.

Corn Shelling Competition

Fun for all ages in this fast paced competition. The goal was to be the first person to get all of the kernels off of the cob. Kernels were flying everywhere! We even had some heats that ended too close to call - a tie!

Corn Husking Competition

This activity designed specifically for the youngsters in the crowd was lots of fun. Each participant had to pull all the husks from their ear of corn. First person with a clean ear of corn was declared the winner. At the end, everyone got a prize just for participating.

Corny Foods

Cherry Crest served up all kind of corny treats for this event. Every guest got a free ear of freshly roasted sweet corn. We also had fried sweet corn and corn fritters – yum! We even invited Paradise Fire Company to come sell their famous chicken corn soup & homemade corn muffins.
